The Former President's Framework of Consequences and Incentives

Trump's voracious urge for payback has quickly morphed into a methodical apparatus. During the year since his election, the chief executive's anger and impulses have assumed the form of official policies in a manner reminiscent to historical repressive systems. Federal personnel who do not cooperate are summarily dismissed and succeeded by loyalists. Political officials who question him risk legal action, court proceedings and punishment. Critics have been designated under administration orders as “unpatriotic”, “opposed to religious values” and “against free markets”, and menaced with criminal charges as “extremists”.

The Justice System Remade

Every instance involving prosecution of critics and immunity for loyalists demonstrates its own unique features. Yet, regardless of their individual character, they represent expressions of what has arisen as a calculated technique. Those events are far from isolated. Trump's purge of Department of Justice prosecutors and law enforcement personnel, coupled with his appointment of devotees in high-level posts, commenced rapidly, quickly assumed a pattern, and has now been formed into a structure. DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been remade into ideological bodies under the president's clear command to carry out his demands. Wrongdoing has been turned into normal. It constitutes the apparatus of revenge.

Leadership is more concerned with punishing the President's perceived enemies than they are with defending our national security.

Internal the Apparatus

The foundation of this framework has been revealed in the legal complaint of multiple ex- top Federal Bureau officials filed in late summer in the federal court in Washington against agency head Kash Patel and attorney general another official for illegal termination in “a campaign of retribution against them for what administration figures considered to be a refusal to exhibit adequate political loyalty”. According to the filing that a former acting director, the previous interim leader, details a discussion in which the director “publicly acknowledged the impropriety of his conduct”.

He had sought to protect law enforcement officers from being terminated, the lawsuit alleges. The director informed him that “administration officials” – perceived by the official to be the White House and federal prosecutors – had ordered him to dismiss all those who they determined as having participated in a law enforcement case against him. The document goes on: “The director explained that he had to dismiss the people his superiors told him to dismiss, because his ability to retain his own job depended on the ouster of the personnel who handled cases involving the leader. Patel commented that there was no option he or him could do to prevent these or any other dismissals, because ‘the FBI tried to put the President in prison and he recalls it clearly.’” After Driscoll advised the director he was disregarding the agency's own internal rules, the director supposedly said “he recognized that and he realized the character of the swift terminations were likely unlawful”.

Extensive Impact

Since his alleged confession to the official, the justice department and the Federal Bureau have been dismantled and repurposed for the administration's system of punishment. Six of the bureau's senior executives were dismissed or compelled to leave in the initial period of the administration. Approximately thousands of legal professionals at DoJ have taken a “deferred resignation program”. At least multiple federal prosecutors, such as those in the New York office, resigned in dissent over what they considered as ideological pressure in abandoning the legal action against the city leader, Eric Adams, in return for his collaboration with the administration's Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests of immigrants. The ethics division of DoJ, which oversees ethical violations, has been reduced to minimal staff. The equality section has been decimated: seventy percent of its personnel has resigned. One-third of top officials at the justice department have resigned. The section upholding ecological regulations has lost half its supervisors.

Incentives and Punishments

Regarding the legal matter, the interim prosecutor for the NY office, Danielle Sassoon, stepped down in protest against what she described as the “quid pro quo”. Tom Homan, Trump's “immigration leader,” appeared as the agent with Adams on a media outlet to announce: “If he doesn't come through, I will return in New York City.”. And, another figure, earlier the justice department figure and a past legal representative, who brokered the arrangement, was granted an court role, a potential springboard to the judicial branch.

His protection for wrongdoings committed while in office, provided by the remarkable ruling of the conservative on the judicial body, thus thwarting his criminal case over the January 6 insurrection and safeguarding his public standing for the national vote, is the basis on which he stands to defend his loyalists. Given this protection, he has been liberated to enable corruption. The impact of the court judgment permeates his administration and the GOP thoroughly. The court matter has metastasized. Similar to a past leader's legal adviser the figure remarked about the Watergate
