19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually separating with former coach Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial title since the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one victories at 21 different events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the last five points to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He rescued four initial chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
